The Association of Austrian Militia and Reserve Soldiers (VÖMR)
The VÖMR association was founded at the same time as the "International Austria Patrol" started in 1989, it is domiciled in Vienna. Its activity covers the whole territory of Austria. The association is a non profit organization and has no political party affiliation.
The association supports the ULV (comprehensive military defense) for the purposes of art. 9a B-VG (The Austrian Federal Constitution) with the emphasis on military defense and has the following objectives:
-
information on defense policy with a view to strengthening the defense idea and the readiness for defense, to maintain the liberal and democratic order of society
-
support and promotion of the militia principle
-
promotion of soldierly spirit, good fellowship, and honorable conduct
-
support of peace efforts around the world
-
events for militia and reserve soldiers
-
information gathering trips
-
information and social events for the exchange of ideas
A matter of special concern of VÖMR is to incorporate reserve soldiers. There are many soldiers who have had to retire either in the course of dissolution of units or for age reasons, but who still stand to their vow and still want to offer their capabilities and knowledge. These soldiers thus have a possibility to cooperate or at least participate in all activities as members of the association.
Inspired by the many contacts in foreign countries created by the International Austria Patrol, activities are very much centered on trips abroad, mainly information visits to armies of friendly foreign nations.
Colonel Gerhard Koska is the president of the Association of Austrian Militia and Reserve Soldiers. The association has more than 50 members and grows continuously. For further information on our association please contact Col. Koska.
